GP Urgent Care

In this two-day workshop, GPs will refresh and build skills in a range of areas important to the Urgent Care space. Topics include:

• Clinical Assessment in Urgent Care
• Burns Management
• ECG Interpretation
• Suturing and Wound Closure
• Splinting and Immobilisation
• Cannulation.

Relevant roles would include:

• General practitioners.

The workshop will deliver a range of learning outcomes aligned to the RACGP accreditation framework including:

• Consolidation of knowledge for the participants and practical application of Basic and Intermediate Life Support, and ECG Interpretation in a classroom setting.
• Establishing the need for Suturing, Plastering, or IV cannulation and assessing the client’s physical and pathophysiological status.
• Classifying and preparing equipment for Suturing, Plastering, and IV cannulation.
• Performing Suturing, Plastering, and IV cannulation in a simulated environment if deemed appropriate and safe.
• Providing relevant and appropriate post-procedure care.

This program is delivered as a 2-day in person practical workshop with a strong focus on hands-on learning through simulated scenarios, case studies, and interactive skills sessions.

Over the 2-days of training, students will be guided and observed by expert trainers with experience in emergency care.

Comprehensive skills and scenario based training ensures effective triage and decision-making on how to assess the severity of conditions and prioritise care, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and patients receive timely attention.

Urgent care training is crucial for a variety of staff working within the urgent care sector as it enables them to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, severe allergic reactions, traumatic injuries, and respiratory distress, which can be life-saving and reduce the risk of complications.

This is a program designed for General Practitioners and its main aim is to bridge the gap between primary care and the emergency department. GPs will further develop their knowledge and skills using practical tools they can implement in their workplace.

This workshop is delivered as face-to-face training. Informal assessment will be via observation of practical activity both individually and as part of group-work scenarios.

This workshop is designed exclusively for GP workforce but Benchmarque Group also has a similar program available for nurses.
